Chapel Hill Town Council member Matt Czajkowski thinks the current process for special elections needs an overhaul.

At the most recent meeting of the Chapel Hill Town Council, Czajkowski raised the idea of adding special elections to the legislative agenda.  The issue is firmly in the crosshairs after Bill Strom’s resignation and the council’s appointment of Donna Bell to replace him.

Some criticized the appointment as a case of diversity over democracy, as fifth-place candidate Matt Pohlman was passed over for Strom’s seat.  But other obstacles exist, as Council member Penny Rich pointed out.

The Chapel Hill Town Council meets again for a business meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
