BOCC Asked To Fund Affordable Housing

Community Home Trust Director Robert Dowling appears optimistic about providing more affordable housing in 2010.

The non-profit has worked within Orange County during the last 20 years to encourage developers to build affordable housing in the hopes of creating more diverse communities.

In his request, Dowling cites the non-profit’s financial successes, stating Home Trust has been able to maintain $200,000 from last fiscal year but expects the money to be used on various on-going projects before the end of this year. Dowling anticipates $75,000 more will be necessary to meet their annual goals.

Housing Developer for CASA, Griff Gatewood, also requested continued support from Orange County, primarily for rental subsidies. CASA, developed in 1992, initially set out to help persons with disabilities afford housing but has since expanded their operation to provide affordable, permanent housing to other community members who make less than $25,000 a year.
