TriOut App Can Find New Favorite Triangle Spots

Founder and developer Lawrence Ingraham says there’s much more on tap besides the iPhone app for social networking and location software TriOut.

The app publishes users’ locations to Twitter and Facebook, letting friends and followers know where they are if they want to meet up, whether for coffee or an impromptu pillow fight.  Similar applications like Foursquare have taken off with great popularity, but TriOut is designed specifically for the Triangle by Ingraham, a Chapel Hill resident.

One innovative aspect of the software is a recommendation engine that culls data from friends and other users to suggest new locations for the user to visit.  Ingraham says it could show you to spots that might just become your new favorite.

After a beta test with 100 users, the software is ready to go, with a launch party in Raleigh scheduled for Wednesday night. Ingraham says versions for Blackberry and Android phones are in the works, but the convenience of Apple’s App Store was the deciding factor in the development of the initial version.
