An end-of-season match-up featuring UNC and Duke is always intriguing. But the Maryland Terrapins’ win last night against the Blue Devils has made things a bit more interesting.
The #23 Terps moved into a first place tie at the top of the ACC standings after defeating #4 Duke 79-72 last night.
Conference Player of the Year candidate Greivis Vasquez chipped in 20 points. Duke’s Jon Scheyer added 19 in the losing effort.
Duke and Maryland both have 12-3 conference records with one game remaining on the season. Maryland faces Virginia on Saturday. The Cavaliers started off the ACC season well, but have slipped lately and fallen to a 5-10 conference record.
Duke, meanwhile, is up against a Carolina team that is starting to show signs of life. If Carolina upsets the Blue Devils and Maryland picks up the win against Virginia, the Tar Heels will keep Duke from being the ACC regular season champions.
That adds a bit more fuel to the fire for Carolina, which is trying to win for the 5th straight season at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
